Literary Roadshow - Upton Sinclair Edition, its interesting

So off the top of my head, I decide to use a writing prompt to help me write about anything.

I bet this will be fun.

If I could be doing anything else apart from working at this moment, I would be playing on an indoor trampoline while drinking orange juice from my water bottle.

If only I can be less serious about life...

There are trampolines in Nigeria for sale on Jumia. It cost anything between $240 and $400.

That is a budget of N200,000 for leisure.

Day 23 Writing Prompt

So this is my writing exercise for the day.

Literary Roadshow – Upton Sinclair Edition

(Write a story inspired by or including the following, from Sinclair’s The Jungle—)

About the author

Upton Sinclair was a famous novelist and social crusader from California, who pioneered the kind of journalism known as "muckraking." His best-known novel was "The Jungle" which was an expose of the appalling and unsanitary conditions in the meat-packing industry.

One day I might become something of a crusader and a famous novelist. At the moment, I am still on my journey to becoming famous. He's responsible for Muckrack, that's amazing. I still have my profile on there for when I worked for newspaper houses.

I think he did something meaningful for his generation and that is admirable.

“I hit him, sir,” said Jurgis. …

I cannot hit anyone physically to save my own life but my words can hit them. I love words, I use them sparingly and rather effectively to convey emotions or thoughts.

“You tried to choke him?”

I can't choke anyone either in conflict or during other physical exertions (wink) but I can choke people with my wit at the strangest moments.

“Yes, sir, your Honor.”

Yes, I can imagine calling someone or many people your honor. My parents raised me well. Well done to them.

“Ever been arrested before?”

I had a rather boring and uneventful childhood and young adulthood so I have never been arrested. But I do have a heart of compassion for prisoners and the conditions they live under in Nigeria. Helping to improve their living conditions would please me greatly.

“No, sir, your Honor.”

I grew up a people pleaser. As I weaned myself from people-pleasing, I found that I still found it difficult saying no to those older than myself.

You know what they say if you have a friend or anyone in your life that would be very angry to hear you say no, they are not a friend. A friend should respect your yes and your no.

“What have you to say for yourself?”

Although I am by nature conservative, I have a lot to say to those who have the time to listen.

Till tomorrow

Ciao

Tessa
